If you want to learn about the role of the Wedding MC then you’ll want to read this article. Specifically we’ll discuss what the wedding MC does on the big day, preparing for the wedding reception and how to look good on the day. After reading this article, you should be ready to step into the role of wedding MC.
Wedding MC duties are primarily to ensure that the reception runs smoothly; you need to help as a behind the scenes problem solver so everything looks effortless, keep guests informed so they know what is happeneing, where and what they’re supposed to do, as well as announce the speakers.
Naturally you’ll be expected to speak on the day, but the best MCs manage to do this discretely without overshadowning the stars of the day – the bride and groom – or the other speakers.
Since you’re expected to know what is happening on the day you’ll need to spend some time before the wedding day with the bride and groom going over their plans. You need to know at what time events are timetabled and write all this information down so you are prepared on the wedding day and don’t miss anything vital out.
Make sure you know the names of the people who are speaking and how to pronounce them. If in any doubt, double check with the newlywebs – in advance.
To look good on the day, make sure you know everything that is happening and what is expected of you. Most people dread the thought of public speaking, but it doesn’t have to be something that I should be feared. If you practice speaking out loud, especially if you can imagine the scene on the day you’ll start to feel more confident. And remember, the first time you speak on the day will be the worst, after that you’ll start to relax and actually enjoy the announcements.
And make sure you have a good stock of jokes and one-liners. Wedding MC jokes don’t need to be the funniest ever, but keep them clean and suitable for everyone who might attend. That means no cursing or off color humor and make sure everything you say is suitable to be heard by the bride and her family too.
